Cryptographic Password Generator

Generate high-entropy, mathematically unpredictable passwords and passphrases using hardware-accelerated random number generation.

Cryptographic Password Generator

Weak and reused passwords are the leading cause of security breaches. Vertueal includes a built-in cryptographic password generator that creates unguessable, high-entropy secrets adhering to modern NIST and OWASP security recommendations.

How It Works

Unlike basic password generators that rely on pseudo-random JavaScript functions (Math.random()), Vertueal uses the browser's native W3C Web Crypto API (crypto.getRandomValues):

  • Hardware Entropy Source: Gathers entropy directly from operating system kernel entropy pools (e.g. /dev/urandom on Linux/macOS or CryptGenRandom on Windows).
  • Uniform Distribution: Ensures zero mathematical bias across character sets, neutralizing brute-force dictionary attacks and frequency analysis.

Configuration Options

You can fine-tune generated passwords to comply with specific website requirements:

OptionDefaultAllowed RangeDescription
Length208 – 128Number of characters in the generated secret.
Uppercase Letters (A-Z)EnabledBooleanIncludes English capital letters.
Lowercase Letters (a-z)EnabledBooleanIncludes English lowercase letters.
Numbers (0-9)EnabledBooleanIncludes numerical digits.
Special Symbols (!@#$...)EnabledBooleanIncludes standard punctuation and special characters.
Avoid Ambiguous CharactersEnabledBooleanExcludes visually confusing characters like 0, O, l, 1, and I.

Tip

For general web accounts, we recommend a minimum length of 20 characters with all four character sets enabled. This provides over 128 bits of entropy, making offline brute-force cracking mathematically infeasible.

Step-by-Step: Generating a Password

Method 1: Using the Standalone Generator Tool

  1. Click Generator in the left sidebar navigation.
  2. Adjust the Length Slider to your desired character count (e.g., 24 characters).
  3. Toggle character set checkboxes as required.
  4. Click the Regenerate button to instantly compute a new candidate.
  5. Click Copy Password to paste it into your external registration form.

Method 2: Generating Directly Inside the "Add Login" Modal

  1. When adding or editing any login in your vault, navigate to the Password field.
  2. Click the Magic Wand / Generate icon located directly inside the input field.
  3. A newly generated high-entropy password is automatically populated into the field.
  4. Click Save Item to encrypt and store the credential.

Password Strength & Health Auditing

Vertueal continuously evaluates stored passwords across several threat vectors:

  • Length Threshold: Flags any passwords under 12 characters.
  • Character Diversity: Checks for combinations of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols.
  • Repetition Analysis: Flags sequential characters (e.g. 12345) and repeated patterns.
  • Reuse Detection: Alerts you if the same password is used across multiple vault entries.
